The time has come again to celebrate Colonia High in this Years Spirit week. As always Spirit Week takes place the first week of October, and this year Colonia High School is more pumped than ever. It is undeniable that spirit week is every student favorite time of the school year.
The week is jam-packed with fun events to ensure all students are excited to participate. The competition between grades is fierce, each year all four grades compete to see who will come out on top. This year the Senior class is going for their second consecutive win after stealing the winning spot from last years senior class. It has never been done in the history of Colonia High School. The Seniors class of 2019 is attempting to go down as a legend. This year’s Junior class is planning on sneaking up and stealing the title again.
Dress to impress
Each day of spirit week has a designated theme, students go all out with crazy costumes.
It is important to know, all the students get involved. Freshman is usually weary and think its uncool to participate the first day.
Then they see the upperclassman and realize it is cool to go all out. The grade that gets the most participants each day get points that give them the advantage to win. This year some themes include the favorites Pink out Day and Throwback Thursday.
On Tuesday, Pink out day everyone is able to show their support for breast cancer awareness month on the pink out day. Students wear pink from head to toe. If they donate a dollar to the American breast cancer foundation they receive a pink ribbon with their name.
When Thursday comes around, Colonia High jumps in a time machine and cruises through the decades. Be prepared to encounter a 20s flapper, a 70s hippie, an 80s rocker, a 90s grunge kid, and a 2000s sweatsuit. On this day bringing in tissues will earn students more points toward the competition. The other days of the week are American Monday, Hawaiian luau Wednesday, and of course blue and gold Friday!
Dime Wars and Hallway Murals
As always dime wars will play a key role in the fundraising done throughout the week. To explain dime wars to the underclassman, it is how the prize money awarded to the overall winning class is raised. First off, each grade has a large jar in the cafeteria. The goal is to put as many dimes as possible in your own glass jar. Any other money put in the jar send your class into the negatives. So don’t be surprised if a senior drops a 20 in an underclassman bucket to make sure the underclassman cant take the lead.
This year Colonia high school is introducing a new addition to spirit week. To replace the banner competition, each class will have the chance to design a mural in the front lobby. The walls will be covered with colored paper. Each grade is to be assigned a color, and the theme of their mural must focus on their selected color. The students are excited to try something new and be as creative as possible.
Show your spirit in the Friday Pep Rally
Friday of spirit week is without a doubt the most exciting day of the school year. Colonia Pride is a phrase you hear very often in Colonia High School, especially during spirit week. On Friday, students wear any Colonia gear they can find. Paired with bandannas, tutus, face paint, and anything else blue and gold they can get their hands on. The pep rally itself is a sight to see. The bleachers are filled from end to end, top to bottom, with excited students. With the music blasting and the events in progress, the pep rally is non stop fun. Some things to look forward to are musical chairs, the pajama race, and of course the scavenger hunt. Girls make sure you bring big purses on Friday because all you’ll need as many wacky items as you can find.
This year mark down the dates October first through fifth, because you won’t want to miss this. Get pumped for the Colonia High School 2018 spirit week!
